OVERVIEW

Seniors Are Favorite Targets Of Criminals

It is important to retire to a Low Crime Area for your own personal safety and for the safety of your possessions. It is also important for your peace of mind- To be able to come and go as you please, to leave your home without fear of theft and to be able to sleep well at night.
The data in the first table shows that North San Diego County's Violent and Property Crime Rates are considerably lower than the national average (100% = National Average). They are also much lower than the Crime Rates of the cities listed by Forbes as "America's Most Affordable Retirement Places to Retire in 2009". These data show that North San Diego County is a relatively safe place to retire to and that many "Affordable Retirement Places" have very High Crime Rates (In addition to their harsh winter and/or summer weather).

The First Table's data are based on FBI's UCR (Universal Crime Rate) Crime Rate Statistics for the years 2007 and 2008. The U.S. averages used to calculate these crime rates (respectively for the years 2007 & 2008) were:  467 and 449 Violent Crimes and 3263.5 and 3170 Property Crimes, each per 100,000 people, per year. If you desire more details on this subject, please check out Crime Statistics Links.
The "North San Diego County, CA" Crime Rate data in the first table represents an area consisting of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Fallbrook, Valley Center and Rancho Bernardo (approximately 98% of the North County population).
The data in the second table is based on San Diego County Sheriff and (for Rancho Bernardo), the San Diego City Police Department crime statistics. It shows the Crime Rates for North San Diego County's Individual Cities.
