Two Senior-Friendly Coastal Communities Featured below are two very nice, gated communities located in the La Costa section of Carlsbad. In San Marcos: Lake San Marcos Communities Click above for photos and details. Lake San Marcos is an All-age village that is the home to many retirees, its main attractions are its village-like ambience, beautiful lake and the amenities of a year-around resort. It is a great place to live out your retirement years with its 80 acre lake, two Golf Courses, two community swimming pools, spas, paddle tennis courts, tennis courts and several club-houses. The Lake San Marcos' Community Association offers a plethora of activities for people of all ages and since so many retirees live there, this also provides an opportunity to make friends of people of all ages; young and old. In addition, its small village has a 140 room resort hotel, Leann's Cafe, Gordon's On The Green Restaurant, a conference center and other businesses. Please see a MAP of the area). This community has a large variety of detached and attached homes and condominiums and although it currently has only one Senior (Age 55+) Condominium Community (Chateau Lake San Marcos), many of its one-story homes were originally designed for seniors. In addition, many of its  homes border the lake or one of the 2 golf courses and some are on hillsides that provide great views. In Vista: Sandalwood- Description- A well-maintained, gated community of red-tile roofed, one and two story detached homes with attached 2-car garages. These homes, built in the 1980's, are of modern designs with cathedral ceilings and fire places. They range in size from approximately 1280 to 1500 sq. ft. Price Range- Low to Mid 300K's, HOF-$120/Mo. Amenities- Electronically controlled gate, tennis courts, a swimming pool, spa and walking trails. Location- See a MAP of the area. Sandalwood is located in the Northeast corner of the city of Vista, near Guajome Regional Park. It is also near Highway 76 which provides easy access to excellent shopping and to Highway I-5. INLAND TOWNS AND CITIES Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Bonsall, Fallbrook and Valley Center are included in our "Inland Towns and Cities" classification. Rancho Bernardo is an elegant Master-Planned Community within the city limits of San Diego, "America's Finest City." It is characterized by its very low crime rate and by offering the amenities, attractions and ambiance of a "Near-Perfect Retirement Destination". Escondido is noted for its many excellent city neighborhoods and its elegant, semi-rural homes with outstanding views of hills, valleys and distant mountains. It is also noted for its many moderately priced condominium communities. Bonsall and Fallbrook are quiet, smaller cities with a choice of excellent city or rural neighborhoods. Their surrounding rural neighborhoods, contain many beautiful small farms, orchards (you can "grow practically anything" in their mild climate) and equestrian estates. Valley Center is a rural town with many small farms, orchards, small ranches and nearby Indian Gambling Casinos. In Escondido: Hidden Meadows- Hidden Meadows Citi-data Community Website Description- An upscale golf community with tree lined streets and many beautiful homes. Its village-like ambience, rural location and year-around golfing weather make Hidden Meadows a very desirable community for retirees. Location- Located in North Escondido, approximately 3 miles east of I-15 and approximately 9 miles north of downtown Escondido (see a MAP of the area). The Community- The community has a clubhouse, recreation facilities, swimming pool, tennis courts and the adjacent Meadow Lake Golf Club course. Its Homes- Hidden Meadows Has approximately 1500 homes built in from the 1970's to 2004. They consist of a few small 1 bedroom, 1 bath condos and a wide variety of very nice one and two story detached homes. They range in price from the high $100K's for condominiums, and from the mid $300K to $3M range for single family homes with HOF from $0 to around $60 per month. Some homes are on 1/2 A and larger lots. Some lots border the golf course and many have excellent views- of the golf course, city lights and hills and mountains. Sonata- Description- This is a classy, upscale community with a fairly large selection of beautiful homes of various styles. Its location between The Vineyard at Escondido golf course to the north and Hodges Reservoir, with its many attractions to the south, provides a unique feeling of isolation from the otherwise busy city of Escondido. This peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty, coupled with year-around golfing weather makes Sonata a very desirable community for retirees. Its Location- Located in southwest Escondido, Sonata is less than 2 miles south east of the huge Westfield Shoppingtown Mall and highway I-15 and approximately 7 miles south of downtown Escondido (see a MAP of the area). The Community- The community offers a clubhouse, tennis courts, a swimming pool and spa. Its Homes- Sonata has a variety of beautiful multi-level detached homes that were built in the late 1980's. Their prices run from the Low to mid $500K range and Home Owner's Fees run in the $124 to $236/month range. Their sizes are in the approximate 1800-3000 sq. ft. range. Some homes have views of the golf course fairways and some have views of the beautiful San Pasqual Valley. Emerald Heights- Emerald Heights Community Website Description- Emerald Heights is an upscale, all-age community of 691 modern one and two story homes. Its elevated location provides many of its homes with spectacular “For-Ever” views of hills and valleys, and in some cases, views that extend the nearly 20 mile distance to the Pacific Ocean. Its 24 hour guarded-gate and many acres of open space provide a relaxing feeling of safety and isolation from the busy nearby cities of Escondido and San Marcos. New home dealers are usually happy to cooperate with real estate agents. This provides real estate agents with an opportunity to expand their sales portfolios and furnish more home options to their clients. it also gives the real estate buyer a buyer's agent who will to help to insure that they get a fair deal and help smooth-out the purchase and escrow processes. Although MLS information is usually not available on them, we will do our best to introduce you to new communities that offer homes for sale that meet your requirements. Below is an Overview of the New Home Communities in North San Diego County as of May 6, 2011: ∙There are no new Active Senior (Age 55+) Communities of homes for sale in North San Diego County. The Cove, a new 140 unit, upscale, 3-story Senior Condominium complex that is being built in Lake San Marcos and was originally scheduled for completion by early 2010. As of February, 2011, its outside looks to be nearly completed but construction is on-hold because the company building it is in bankruptcy. ∙There are at least 25 communities of New Homes for people of All Ages in North County. They are located throughout the North County area. Some can also be found in the Signon San Diego New Home Directory. The Saturday San Diego Union Tribune newspaper often has sections on new homes. You can find a back-copy at a local library. ∙These communities are in various stages of development- Some are approved but not started, some have quite a few homes for sale and some are nearly sold out. ∙Most communities offer two-story detached homes but a few offer single-story detached homes. There are very few new condos or town homes for sale. Some of the detached two story homes have  Master Bedrooms located on the first floor. Prices for detached new home range from the low $300K's to over $1M. Below is a selection of homes that may be attractive to retirees: Oakmont at Shady Grove in Fallbrook, is a community that offers single story homes in a gated community with RV parking. Its single-story models are priced the mid $300K's. The Greens community in Oceanside offers both single story homes and 2 story homes with a master bed room on the 1st floor. Their prices are in the mid $500K range. Hamilton Ranch Estates in Escondido is a small community of large single story homes on 0.9 acres, priced in the mid $700K range. The Crosby Villas collection by City Ventures in Rancho Santa Fe,  located on the 16th Fairway of renowned The Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe golf course, have  master bedrooms on the first floor. They are priced from the high $600K’s Rockrose, located in the new Foothills Master Planned Community in Carlsbad offers single story homes from the high $500K's. The 4S Ranch Community near Rancho Bernardo is a very nice community of new homes. Their Monteluz community offers both single story homes and two story homes with master bedrooms on the first floor. FOR SENIOR RENTALS: Here is a 3-step plan to help you in your search for Senior Retirement Rentals (We sincerely hope it is of some value to you): Step 1. Click-on > San Diego Craigslist, to get to a webpage on Rentals. In the "Search For" box, type in “Senior + The North County City" where you want to live (For example type in "Senior +Oceanside" or Senior + a different North County city, possibly: San Marcos, Carlsbad, Fallbrook Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, Vista, etc.). This should provide you with the beginning of a list of Available Senior Community Rentals. By the way, if you want to rent a furnished home or apartment in North county; type "Furnished North County" in "Apt/housing for Rent," "Search For" boxes. This may allow you to find a rental while you are looking for a home to purchase. Note: You may also "Post" an inquiry on Craigslist- Describe what you are looking for and ask if any one has rentals available that meet your requirements. Step 2. Note: this method won't allow you to return to this webpage so we suggest that you add this webpage to your favorites  by pressing ALT and A (for Internet Explorer) or B (for Firefox) before proceeding (I also suggest that you print out this page or possibly write down the selections: "For Rent", "Key Word" "SENIOR" and "SEARCH" ). Click-on > The North County Times Newspaper's Classified Ads: Click on the "FOR RENT" tab, Then in the "Search by Keyword, Address, etc." drop down menu, select "KEY WORD" and type "SENIOR" in the box next to it. Just enter "San Diego" and "California" as the city and state (the North County cities don't yield any results!), then click on "Apartments- Age Qualified". You will need to sort through the results to find rentals in your city of interest. If the above 3- step plan doesn't locate a Senior Rental that meets your requirements we suggest that you consider doing the following: Click on > and scroll down to a Senior Community that interests you. Click on that Senior Community then look for "MAP" and click on it (it is usually located in the "Its Great Location" section. The Oceana Senior Communities are slightly different than the other community web pages. For the Oceana communities, you can access a map by clicking-on the underlined Oceana community name such as "Original Oceana". In the upper left-hand corner of each map, you will find the address of the entrance to the Senior Community. Drive to and enter the community of interest. If possible, check at the gate or club house for rental information and then drive around looking at the available rentals and for additional "For Rent" signs. Note : If it is a gated community, go to the guard house and tell the person there what you are looking for and ask permission to enter. If the gate is closed and there is no one available at a guard house, park and wait for a resident to open the gate and then tell them what you are looking for and ask them how to get permission to follow them in. It should be noted that Mobile Home Parks where the residents rent the spaces do not allow owners to offer their homes for rent. Mobile Home Parks where the resident owns the land however may have some rentals available.
